Places to Eat & Stay

 

Why not stay and enjoy a holiday in the Lake District making an alpaca trek or a 'Meet & Greet' one of your activities.

 

If you just come up for the day, why not enjoy a meal before you head home? 

 

There are numerous places to stay nearby, including The Crooklands Hotel on the main A65 on your way to us from the M6. Also, The Station Inn at the opposite end of the Helm walk on the Oxenholme Road, a few minutes from Oxenholme Train Station if you fancy something to eat before going home. Both of these offer accommodation, a warm welcome and meals to suit all tastes. If you would like a meal after your trek it is advisable to book beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Helm Mount Barns are holiday cottages within about 15 minutes walk from the start of our trek or 3 minutes by car.

Located on the A65 towards Kendal at Barrows Green, The Punch Bowl pub is only 2 minutes by car and 10 minutes walk from our trekking start location. It is also only 7 minutes by car from our Meet & Greet location. 

 

The Punch Bowl is run by Lyn, Ray and family who offer traditional British pub food in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.  It also has a beer garden for when the weather is nice. Why not enjoy a meal before you head home.

5 minutes away by car Linda & Andrew run The Station Inn which has an outdoor play area and beer garden. Why not enjoy a meal before you head home, you don't need to book, they are happy to fit you in.

​

From the trekking end point travel back towards Kendal turning right into Oxenholme village signposted Oxenholme railway station. Go all the way through the village and turn right. Go past the train station, up the hill and you can't miss it.

5 minutes away by car from our Meet & Greet location and the alpacas home in Gatebeck is The Crooklands Hotel which is open to non-residents for traditional pub classics in their restaurant and Inn. It has an outdoor seating area and plenty of parking.

​

 

This is a great place to stay too if you want to explore the surrounding area with a holiday break including one of our activities.

Helm Mount Barns, Barrows Green, accomodation

Helm Mount Barns

 

Helm Mount Barns are self catering holiday cottages that can accommodate parties of up to 14 people. 

 

If you have any children under the age of 6 or anyone in your party with physical limitations and not able to go on a walk, we can arrange for a visit to you at the Barns whilst you are staying with Clive & Angela, please ask for further details.

This is an Air BNB just 2 minutes drive or 15 minutes walk from our alpacas home in Gatebeck, it is also only 3 miles and 6 minutes drive from the start of our Helm trek. This holiday let is a converted Lakeland barn offering accommodation for up to 8 guests, great for a full family get-away.

5 bespoke self-catering luxury holiday cottages nestled in 3 acres of gardens, they offer private spa facilities including a 16m indoor heated swimming pool. Mirefoot is located just outside Burneside, one of Kendal's outlying villages, between 7 and 10 miles from both of our activity locations. They have good directions on their website.

West View Caravan Park is situated just a couple of minutes drive from where our alpacas live in Gatebeck. An alternative to staying in a hotel or holiday cottage, you can rent either their 2 bedroom static caravans or new 6 berth lodge.
