Wreay Syke Alpacas

Alpaca Trekking

Come and enjoy the views over Kendal and the Lake District fells with your very own alpaca friend! Come with family, friends or even on your own as you can always join in with another group and meet other people who like alpacas just as much as you!

Our walk is over The Helm to the south of Kendal, a public access hill with 360 degree panoramic views, click on the link below to find out more.

We offer our alpaca trekking from February through to the end of November when we take a break from trekking only. Our Meet & Greet and Little of Everything activities continue throughout the year so please take a look at our Meet & Greet and Little of Everything pages for further information...

You must have a reasonable amount of confidence around animals to enjoy our walk, it may not be suitable if you are very nervous and you must also be able to understand safety advice and instructions we give you. if you're a little unsure why not book our 'Meet & Greet' or 'Little of Everything' activities to meet all our alpacas at their home before deciding whether a trek is for you?

Walks can also be adapted to suit your individual needs where possible with prior agreement, please ring, email or message for further information.

Costs & Information

£25 per person for anyone aged 12 and over.

£35 for two people sharing an alpaca (including children aged 6-12).

£10 per accompanying person not walking an alpaca.

(any children over the age of 12 must be accompanied by a responsible adult)

We cannot walk one alpaca on his own so you may have to wait to join another group if there is no other booking on your chosen date.

Please note: we limit additional accompanying people to one per alpaca

Children aged 6 to 12 must share an alpaca with a responsible adult and be able to cope with the walk. In this situation 2 lead reins will be attached to your alpaca so your child can feel like they are leading by themselves.

Children under 6 years old are not permitted on the walks but we can arrange a "Meet and Greet"  for you at the alpacas home in Gatebeck which can include children of any age, please contact us to discuss.

Please confirm all people and ages of children who will be coming on the walk at the time of booking.

You should wear appropriate footwear for the trek, sturdy walking boots or good wellies are essential, trainers are not suitable.

It is important at the time of booking that we know if any of those walking have any health limitations or health issues that we should be aware of. Where possible, we are very happy to modify the walk or distance in a way that accommodates any health concerns.

Alpaca welfare is paramount so although light rain is not a problem we may have to reschedule the walk if there is heavy rain or the rain has been persistent. We may also have to postpone your walk if it is too hot or move it to a different time when it is cooler. If we postpone your booking due to severe weather or unforeseen circumstances we will offer you an alternative date or issue a voucher for use at another time.

As we can walk up to 6 alpacas at a time you may be part of a larger group.

If you would like your own private group booking you must book a minimum of 2 alpacas, the cost for a private booking is £40 per person. Please specify at the time of booking.

No dogs are allowed on the activity.

Lynne & Mark

Thank you both so much for the lovely alpaca experience on Saturday. Mark and I really enjoyed meeting you and spending time with Jura and Braveheart - both of whom are adorable! All the boys that we went out with are a real credit to the endless time and hard work you invest in them, together with your extensive knowledge. The whole morning was a very special treat. Thanks again.
